To be a Malaysian, you have to talk like a Malaysian.
If you have been growing up in Malaysia, you might have heard of the line:
“Wei macha, you want to makan here or tapau?’
There are 4 languages combined just to make a sentence. In there, we have English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil.
When we speak to a foreigner, we sound like nonsense, but to another Malaysian, we sound like ordinary people speaking. We are so used to mixing languages to the extent that whenever a foreigner speaks in “proper” language, we tend to think there is something wrong with them.
